I knew the night before he was born that I was in labor. I wasn't sure how long that non-feeling labor was going to last or if it was here to stay even. But the contractions were regular at about ever 6-8 min. They did not hurt at all. I could barely even feel them. IK had to keep poking my belly to see if it was hard. See? Barely in labor. However it was about 11pm that I felt my very distinct back pain on the right side that told me this just might be it. I stayed up for a little bit then went through my bedtime routine. HOT bath, shower, bed, sometimes repeat. I was sleeping good till about 1am. That nagging back pain. I was able to get back to sleep. About 2 I was starting to feel the contractions to know they were there. But again, something I was not sure was going to stick around or not so I went back to sleep.... sort of. I tried anyway. I was in and out. But never really in a good sleep again. By 3am I was breathing through them a with a slight noise, I was still wanting sleep. By 3:30, there was no more trying to sleep. I was very much awake and aware that the contractions were very regular and getting stronger. By 4am I was out of bed, pacing the living room.
Call me a good wife. 5am is when I went to wake my hubby. Yup, that's right, I let him sleep as long as possible. I let him sleep last time too. SO there I was at 5am, sat on the bed and very calmly but stern said "Honey, it's time for you to get up." He got up asking in a rushed tone "it time, now?" He seemed to not be sure where to start, so I told him to go take a shower but make it quick and my pain controlling pacing began again. Well, I suppose when I said to be quick he thought I said take your time. It was 5:30am I started talking to myself downstairs telling hubby I was going to leave without him. He thought I was talking to my Mom. So down he came and asked who I was talking to and I said "You! Lets go!" Very entertaining really. Mom woke up and was coming down as we were walking out the door. (I was going to text her.) Off we went!
3 contractions later we were at the hospital!! In triage and checked at 5cm and 100% effaced! Sweet. I informed them of my desire for and epidural asap. Don't worry I was still under control and very nice about it. While getting hooked to an IV (because I was also Group B positive) and answering questions baby's heart rate dropped. I was given oxygen and moved into different positions. It seemed to be about 5 or 10 min (they said 10 but I don't think it was that long) before it went back to normal. I do know I was about 1 min from a C-section. I am glad it went back up. We didn't have a problem with his heart rate after that. The nurses think it was because I had labored so quick. A Dr. came to the curtain and said "Don't do that again" but they had staff on hand and ready if a c-section was to be done. Midwife came and we went to a laboring room. A monitor was placed on baby's head to keep track of his heart rate. Then she suggested instead of an epidural to get Fentanyl. I think that's what it was. She said because it was going to be a quick labor that it would be a good option. Also said it would work faster. Little bit later I no longer felt contractions. Then we just relaxed till it was time. Midwife said I would be the one to say when it was time to push. She was right. I still felt the pressure of baby coming down. about 2 contractions later I was ready to push. Let me say, even with my pain meds I totally felt that and it hurt just as much. But this time I was prepared for the pain. So it didn't seem to be as bad as my last delivery. One contraction later and he was here. And Hubby got to "catch" him!! He didn't really enjoy that experience so much. But that's ok. Now he can say he did it.
A whopping 8 Lbs 1.4 oz 21.5 inch long baby was here!! And he is perfect! At one week old he slept 5 1/2 hours straight last night and he has surpassed his birth weight. At 4 days old he weighed in at 8 Lbs 10 oz. A-mazing!! He is such a calm baby. I can even put him down!! (that was unheard of with my other boys) So life is grand. Now for a few pictures!
First 4 are at 1 week old. The others are random first week of life.
Action shot of a sneeze.
1:30am
